Your Parenting Blueprint Begins in the Dining Room
Discipline & Authority
Long before you had to decide how you would discipline your own children, you had already experienced discipline as a child.
You learned who was in charge. You learned what happened when someone broke a rule. You learned what respect looked like, what consequences felt like, and what was expected of a child.
And whether you realize it or not, some of that may still be sitting at the table with you today.
Maybe you hear yourself saying something your parents used to say. Or maybe you are so determined not to parent the way you were parented that you have gone completely the other direction.
Both tell us something about your blueprint.
I invite you to think about:
What did discipline teach me as a child, and what do I want discipline to teach my children?
But your blueprint wasn't built in just one room.
The Dining Room may be where you begin, but there is an entire house to explore. Understanding where your responses come from gives you the opportunity to choose what happens next.
